Brake Upgrades Enoggera

Upgrade your car with better brakes

At Pickering Street Car Services, based on Pickering Street in Enoggera, we specialise in delivering high performance brake kit configurations for high performance vehicles, commercial, 4wd and heavy duty operating conditions.

  • 4wd brake upgrade kit
  • commercial vehicle brake pads
  • heavy duty driving, e.g. australia’s demanding conditions

Benefits of better brakes

The obvious is better braking performance, i.e. more stopping power, meaning you’re able to stop more rapidly, but there are other benefits:-

  • High Temperature Stability – Better thermal stability means that your brakes will be delivering consistent output.
  • Braking Efficiency – Stop with less overall wear on brake pads
  • Better Self Cleaning
  • Less Brake Fade – As brakes are used intensively they become hotter and hotter reducing the level of friction, or slowing impact, upon the brake pads. Better Pads and Rotors providing high temperature stability/thermal stability, reducing this effect.
  • Stronger – better materials mean components can take more force and work together more effectively, e.g. improved pad attachment strength.

Brake Parts & What We Improve

Brake Pads

Brake pads are forced against the rotors in disk and drum brakes as you apply the brakes. The friction of the stationary pads against the rotating rotors (that spin with the wheels) slows the vechile whether it is a European performance car, or a four wheel drive. As these pads wear down they turn into brake dust.

Rotors – Slotted Rotors

The wheel has rotors that spin with the wheel. The pads are forced aganst them during braking.

A special feature of high performance brake kits like the latest diamond tip slot rotors. Each Diamond Tip Slot is a unidirectional slot and v-shaped dimples to efficiently expel gasses, dirt and water, these are also referred to as slotted rotors.

Brake Hose/Lines – Braided Lines

A typical 4wd brake upgrade kit includes stainless steel braided lines that pass hydraulic fluid to the brake calipers. Bendix ultimate 4wd brake line shown below, also known as ultimate brake hose.

Protective zinc coating

Rotors are made of high carbon steel. Zinc is used to protect steel like this in a process known as galvanization. The zinc layer reduces rust making your rotors last significantly longer.

Advanced brake pads also have protective zinc coating on their metal surfaces.

Firm brake pedal?

How your brakes feel can inform you about the state of your brakes. We often find that Toyota Land Cruisers and Hilux vehicles have softer brakes than one might expect, this is especially pronounced after brakes have been applied. An experienced driver of these vehicles rapidly gets used to this “feature” but ideally, there should not be quite as much travel when applying the brakes a second time. A firm brake pedal can be a sign that your braking system is robust, especially if the pedal remains

Cars that benefit

4wd

When upgrading a 4wd with better suspension e.g. in a GVM upgrade (we offer these too) some of our clients opt to improve their brakes are the same time. A 4wd brake upgrade kit can be installed efficiently. Ask us for details.

European High Performance Cars

For example, the Audi S-Range and BMW M-Series all benefit from high performance brake kit upgrades.

Whilst the factory standard braking performance of these vehicles is better than the normal models an upgrade can have a significant impact on increasing the braking power, reducing brake fade through much better thermal stability.

FAQs

How do I know if something is wrong with my brakes?

  • Brake warning light is on
  • Noisy brakes
  • Do you notice a change with your brake pedal?
  • Vibration when braking
  • Fluid leaving from your brakes
  • Brake pedal is too soft or too firm
  • Vehicle pulls to the side (swerving) when you brake

If you have noticed any of these warning signs it is important that you get a professional to check your car.

Will upgrading my brakes affect warranty?

Your new car warranty covers the brakes the manufacturer supplied. When you have new brakes added those are covered by our warranty. The same is true of any new parts added to your vehicle, e.g. GVM upgrades.

Where are you based?

We are Based in Enoggera on Pickering Street. Some clients bring their cars 40km+ to get specialist work done on their pride and joy.
